Packaged food: your GSO 2233 nutrition panel

Prepackaged food sold in the UAE must carry a nutrition facts panel that follows GSO 2233 (adopted in the UAE as UAE.S GSO 2233). A missing panel, the wrong format, incorrect rounding, or numbers that do not reconcile with the ingredients is a common reason products are held or rejected at Dubai Municipality food registration. We calculate the panel from your recipe and deliver it artwork-ready in Arabic and English.

  • Energy in kcal and kJ
  • Protein
  • Total fat, of which saturated fat
  • Carbohydrate, of which sugars
  • Sodium / salt
  • Declared per 100g / 100ml and per serving
  • Serving size and servings per pack
  • Bilingual Arabic and English

Menu calorie declaration: Dubai and Abu Dhabi

Both emirates now require calorie information on food menus. Dubai Municipality runs calorie declaration through its Al Riyada programme and its Guide for Calorie Declaration in Food Establishments, tied to the National Nutrition Agenda. Abu Dhabi requires it under ADAFSA's guideline for displaying calories on food menus. Running a lab analysis on every dish is slow, costly and impractical for a menu that changes.

We calculate the calorie and nutrition values for each menu item through a qualified nutritionist, giving you an accurate, defensible declaration you can put on the menu with confidence — and keep updated as the menu changes.

Abu Dhabi SEHHI programme: healthy menus and calorie display

SEHHI is the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC) healthy food programme. It runs in three strands: SEHHI for Supermarkets and Groceries, SEHHI for Displaying Calories on the Menu, and SEHHI Healthy Menus. If you operate a food service in Abu Dhabi, the second and third strands are the ones that decide what your menu has to show and what it has to contain.

The 2026 workplace guideline

In May 2026 ADPHC expanded SEHHI with a technical guideline for workplaces. Two requirements sit at its centre: calorie information must be displayed at every food touchpoint, and a minimum of 30 per cent of the items on offer must meet SEHHI nutritional criteria. It applies broadly across Abu Dhabi workplaces that serve food or drink, including cafeterias, catering services, vending machines, kiosks and coffee stations.

The guideline also sets out the operating side: registration through the official SEHHI channels, a named focal point, approval of food items, staff training, awareness activity and ongoing monitoring.

Where the 30 per cent rule bites

Displaying calories is a calculation exercise. Meeting the 30 per cent threshold is a menu design exercise, and you cannot know whether you meet it until every item has been calculated against the SEHHI criteria. Most operators discover the gap only when they try to register. Working it out first tells you which items already qualify, which are close enough to reformulate, and which need replacing.

  • Per-item nutrition calculated by a qualified nutritionist, not estimated
  • Each item assessed against the SEHHI nutritional criteria so you know your true percentage
  • Reformulation options for items that sit just outside the threshold
  • Calorie declarations prepared for menus, boards, vending and digital ordering points
  • Supporting calculation records for registration and inspection

Our guide to the Abu Dhabi SEHHI healthy menu and calorie requirements explains the programme in full. If you also sell packaged product in Abu Dhabi, the same underlying calculation feeds your GSO 2233 panel and your Nutri-Mark position, so it is worth doing once and doing it properly.

Schools and institutional catering

Schools, nurseries and their catering providers must meet UAE school-nutrition standards. In Abu Dhabi that means ADAFSA's guideline for food canteens in educational institutions, alongside ADEK's food and nutrition policy. Dubai publishes its own Guidelines and Requirements for Food and Nutrition in Schools. If you are a caterer applying to serve a school, or a school reviewing your canteen, you need menus calculated and documented against those standards — including the annual nutritional review.

We do that calculation and produce the supporting documentation, so your canteen menu stands up to review.

Calculation or lab analysis?

Not every product needs costly lab testing. For most standard products, calculation from ingredient and recipe data — using recognised food-composition databases and GSO rounding rules — is accepted. Where a lab analysis is genuinely required, for certain claims or complex and variable matrices, we tell you upfront rather than after a rejection. Any calorie or nutrient claim on a label or menu must be backed by supporting documentation, which is exactly what we produce.

Nutrition claims, and Nutri-Mark

If your label or menu says “high in protein”, “low fat” or “source of fibre”, the claim has to meet the GCC conditions for nutrition and health claims, and the panel and the claim must line up. We check claim eligibility so a marketing line does not sink your registration. Abu Dhabi has also introduced Nutri-Mark, a front-of-pack traffic-light nutrition label now mandatory for certain product categories — we can advise on how your product scores and what to declare.

Coverage

UAE-wide — Dubai (Dubai Municipality food registration and Al Riyada calorie declaration) and Abu Dhabi (ADAFSA menu calories and school canteen standards) — plus GCC markets under the GSO framework. Registering the same product in Saudi Arabia? That runs under SFDA, and we handle both gateways from one recipe brief.

Why CorpBridge

Your nutrition figures are calculated by a qualified nutritionist and reviewed against the exact standard that applies — GSO 2233 for packaged panels, the Dubai and Abu Dhabi calorie-declaration guidelines for menus, and the ADAFSA and ADEK standards for schools. You get an accurate, defensible, properly documented declaration the first time, from a team that also handles your registration end to end.

Frequently asked questions

Is a nutrition panel mandatory on food labels in the UAE?
Yes. Prepackaged food must carry a nutrition facts panel following GSO 2233 (adopted as UAE.S GSO 2233), declaring energy, protein, fat, carbohydrate, sugars and sodium per 100g and per serving, in Arabic and English.
Do I need a lab test, or is calculation enough?
For most standard products, calculation from your recipe is accepted. A lab analysis is only needed for certain claims or complex, variable products — we tell you which applies before you spend on testing.
Which nutrients must be declared?
Energy (kcal and kJ), protein, total and saturated fat, carbohydrate and sugars, and sodium / salt — per 100g / 100ml and per serving.
Do I have to show calories on my restaurant menu?
Yes. Dubai Municipality (through its Al Riyada calorie declaration programme) and Abu Dhabi (through ADAFSA) both require calorie information on food menus. We calculate per-item calories so you can declare them accurately without lab-testing every dish.
Can you help school canteens and caterers?
Yes. We calculate canteen menus against the ADAFSA school-canteen and ADEK standards in Abu Dhabi and the Dubai school-nutrition guidelines, and produce the documentation, including the annual nutritional review.
Do you cover Saudi Arabia?
Yes. KSA registration runs under SFDA rather than Dubai Municipality. We prepare a single product for UAE and Saudi markets together.
